Artist's Statement

“As a painter I want to create pieces that are aesthetically pleasing. However, far beyond that, I want to create a painting which will emotionally awaken the viewer. Regardless of my subject matter—landscape, figurative, or abstract--I struggle to create works that evoke affecting responses. I believe that our emotions and inner thoughts are where real humanity and individuality exist. My philosophy is that if my painting does not stir emotion, and stimulate thought, it is lacking purpose.”

Charmayne has more than one style of painting. She paints with acrylics in a soak and stain semi-abstracted style, and with oils where she enjoys doing representational/allegorical paintings that often delve into sensitive subject matter.

“I paint because it is my passion. I have a burning desire to create something worthwhile. Each piece I paint is a little part of me. It contains something I have felt or thought-- something I believe I must share.“
